IELTS is an internationally recognised language test that measures an individual’s English language proficiency. It stands for International English Language Testing System. The test comprises four components: reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is available in two versions: Academic and General Training. The score is determined by a combination of four components: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Each component of the test is scored out of a possible 9 points.

The score for each of the four components is calculated on a 0 to 9 scale, with 0 representing the lowest level of proficiency and 9 representing the highest level of proficiency. The overall score is calculated by taking the average of the four component scores. The overall IELTS score is rounded to the nearest whole or half number.

A score of 6 or higher is considered proficient in English. A score of 8 or higher is recognized as very good English proficiency.

The IELTS score is calculated based on a variety of criteria. Each component is assessed on a different set of criteria.
